How To Download Webp Images As PNG? Where to download free PNGs?

 

The Webp image format of Google is pretty cool. It is a pretty unique compression system that can display images at around two thirds the size of the similar image rendered in PNG or JPEG format. With years of development, having features predominantly in Google products, and experiencing worldwide adoption, Webp images are still not completely supported by some common image tools out there, such as Microsoft app, though it is supported by some old-fashioned tools such as Window Photo Viewer. Here is how you can save a Webp image as a PNG image:

Edit Image URL

It is perhaps the best manual way to save a webp image as a PNG image. Webp images saved online can be saved both as PNG or JPEG images, since a few browsers such as Safari and Firefox don’t support Webp. Hence, in such browsers, PNG or JPEG images are loaded rather. With a simple URL tweak, you would be able to load a PNG format rather than Webp format. Here is how:

• Right click on the webp image and choose “copy image address” from the menu
• Now copy the image address
• Then paste this address in the new table and remove the last 3 characters from that URL. You have to remove -rw at the end of the URL. After hitting the enter button, the image would be saved in PNG format.
• You may then right click on the image and choose Save Image in order to save it.

Use "Save Image As PNG" Chrome extension

On Google Chrome, you have the ability to use an extension called Save Image. As PNGTank, it adds an option in the context menu to download the image as PNG. However, the Opera users can also use such extensions by installing the Download Chrome Extension. Such an extension will help you install the most chrome extensions in Opera, also the Save Image as PNG option. 

• Install the Save Image as PNG Extension from the Play Store
• Right click on the Webp image and choose the option of Save Image as PNG. You can the save the image in the PNG format
• However, this extension would only help you save images in PNG format. 

Use MS Paint

In case you use Windows 11 or Windows 10, you may download a Webp image to your hard drive and use the option of MS Paint to open it. Why not use software already installed on your PC to convert images that you have? Paint can convert Webp images into GIF, JPEG, and most importantly, PNG. There is no need to download any extra software. 

For this purpose, right click on the image, and then click on Open With > Paint in cae it isn’t set to open Webp files. Once the image is opened in Paint, click on File and then Save As and then choose PNG format from the list available. Select a destination for saving your file and click on Save to save it as a PNG image.
